Sustainability
Purpose and Vision
Triops Technologies is driven by the conviction that technology companies have both the opportunity and the obligation to contribute to a more sustainable world. Since our founding, we have oriented our business around long-term impact, pairing a forward-looking strategy with the flexibility to adapt as circumstances evolve.
As a software company, Triops does not manufacture physical products, and our operations are conducted entirely within leased office spaces. This means our direct energy consumption and utility footprint are comparatively modest. We nonetheless take every reasonable step to minimize our own environmental impact. More importantly, we believe the greatest contribution we can make lies in the solutions our software enables: by helping customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and develop innovative approaches to decarbonization, we multiply our positive environmental effect well beyond what our internal operations alone could achieve.
Greenhouse Gas Accounting
Triops is committed to measuring, reducing, and where necessary offsetting the carbon emissions associated with our business. Our approach covers Scopes 1, 2, and 3 as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
We actively pursue reductions in greenhouse gas emissions across all three scopes. For residual emissions that cannot yet be eliminated, we intend to procure credible, scientifically verified carbon offsets each year in pursuit of annual carbon neutrality.
We track our carbon footprint using both absolute and intensity-based metrics, allowing us to demonstrate meaningful reductions in carbon intensity even as the company grows.
We incorporate all reasonably available data into our carbon accounting model. Because datasets and methodologies improve over time, year-to-year figures may be adjusted. If an updated model produces a revised estimate for a prior period, we will reconcile the difference through additional offset purchases in the following calendar year so that our carbon neutrality commitment remains intact.
As the global economy moves toward decarbonization, we continually assess new pathways for more accurate and transparent carbon accounting. We also evaluate the evolving landscape of carbon offset instruments, including carbon avoidance, carbon removal, and sustainable aviation fuel, in line with the latest climate science.
Environmental and Greenhouse Gas Reporting
Transparency is central to our environmental strategy. We hold ourselves accountable through regular, accurate disclosure of our climate impact.
We tabulate and publish our greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis, in compliance with all applicable local, national, and regional laws. Emissions reports are made publicly available on the Triops Technologies website.
Given that data sources and calculation methodologies evolve, historical figures may be revised. Any such revisions will be reflected in the next annual emissions report we publish.
Beyond our core emissions reporting, we regularly consider additional disclosure channels such as sustainability reports, investor communications, and recognized climate questionnaires (e.g., CDP Climate Change).
We periodically review sustainability protocols and best practices at each of our global office locations to identify further opportunities for improvement.
Sustainability Commitments
Our sustainability program extends beyond carbon accounting to encompass resource efficiency, responsible procurement, and community engagement.
Regulatory Compliance
Triops complies with all applicable local, national, and regional environmental laws and regulations, including those relating to land use, forestry, water rights, and the impact of business activities on local communities, to the extent they apply to our operations.
Employee Awareness
We share information about our sustainability initiatives with employees, contractors, interns, and other personnel so that environmental responsibility becomes part of our everyday culture.
Community and Local Impact
Triops supports the right of local communities to pursue their own sustainability, environmental, and ethical goals, from carbon neutrality targets to the protection of land and housing rights.
Office Spaces and Leasing
Sustainability and environmental performance are factored into our evaluation process whenever we enter into or renew a lease for office space worldwide.
Energy and Utilities
Each year, we assess opportunities to lower energy and utility consumption across our portfolio of leased offices, including the procurement of renewable energy from utility providers where available.
Waste and Recycling
We evaluate waste reduction and recycling options at each of our office locations. As a software company, our operations produce virtually no hazardous waste.
Water Use
Where applicable, we review opportunities to reduce water consumption at our offices. Because we do not engage in physical manufacturing, our operations do not require significant volumes of water or industrial chemicals.
Travel and Remote Work
We recognize the value of in-person collaboration while also acknowledging the environmental benefits of virtual alternatives. Employees are encouraged to choose video conferencing over travel when practical, and our workplace management team regularly evaluates sustainable options for food and beverage services across our offices.
Software and Compute Efficiency
We invest in engineering improvements that increase the computational efficiency of our software platforms. These ongoing investments are designed to reduce our cloud infrastructure consumption over time, even as the company scales.
Review and Updates
This policy is reviewed at least annually and updated as needed to reflect changes in legislation, best practices, and our own operational footprint. Questions or suggestions regarding this policy should be directed to the Triops Technologies Sustainability Team.
